Day 9 - Rapid City to Sioux Falls

We only packed enough clothes for a week, so it was time to do laundry. While Brad took the boys to the water park in the hotel, I got the fun task of doing the laundry and packing for another car ride. Jack and Matthew had so much fun at the water park that they didn't want to leave. But we had to check out of the hotel and drive 6 hours to Sioux Falls. There are two must see things on the drive from Rapid City to Sioux Falls and we stopped at both. The first was Wall Drug. It became famous in 1931 when the owners put up signs on the highway advertising free ice cold water to get travelers to come into their store. The signs start as soon as you leave Rapid City and continue until you get to the town of Wall. The store is probably triple the size it was in the 1930's and it has become a tourist destination. It still serves 5 cent coffee and sells 10 cent donuts. We wandered through the shops inside and took pictures of the boys on the Jackalope in the backyard. Then we stopped at the Wall Drug old fashioned soda fountain for root beer floats and ice cream. The second must see tourist attraction is the Corn Palace in the town of Mitchell. Every year a committee comes up with a new theme and they make murals out of corn. It was definitely an interesting site. After eating dinner, we continued on our way to Sioux Falls. It is just a place to stop over on our way to Minnesota.
