Zion Canyon - Day 3

Did I mention the fact that our cabin has no curtains on the windows except for the bathroom and one that barely covers the window in the bedroom? It makes for an early wake up call that's for sure. We had a rough start to our day. Matthew was extremely cranky at breakfast and feeling a little under the weather so I wasn't sure if we were going to actually make it out of our cabin today. I gave him some medicine and he rested for 20 minutes, then he was ready to start his day. We drove into the park to the visitors center to catch a shuttle bus that takes you up the canyon. They don't allow cars because they are trying to cut down on the traffic in the park. We got off the shuttle at the Zion Lodge and ate lunch before we headed off for our hike. We decided to pick an easy hike because the boys don't really enjoy walking. We ended up walking much farther than we planned because our original destination to Lower Emerald Pool wasn't that exciting and people we saw coming back down the mountain said that we should continue on to the Upper Emerald Pool. Amazingly the boys were actually having a good time. The only time Jack complained was when he slipped and fell. His leg got scratched and started to bleed a little and he started into meltdown mode saying he couldn't walk. We chose to ignore him and made him keep going. Less than five minutes later he had forgotten about his injury and was happily walking up the path. It was definitely worth the extra half hour to get to Upper Emerald Pool. I'm sure when there has been more rain it is even more beautiful because the "pool" would have more water. When we got back to the bottom I asked the boys if they had fun and they both said that they did. Matthew even told me later that he wanted to go back another day. Maybe the boys will be turn out to be nature lovers and maybe us telling them over and over again that our summer was going to be full of lots of walking actually sunk in.

We decided not to push our luck with another hike so we headed back to the visitors center to get our car. After a trip to the market we went back to our cabin to hang out for the rest of the night. The Resort handyman came by to check out the light situation while Brad was out picking up dinner. He said he had solved the problem, but when Brad got back he asked why the lights were still out. I hadn't noticed that they had turned off again. What a pain. But miraculously they turned back on again. So the saga continues.
