Bryce Canyon - Day Four

We drove an hour to Bryce Canyon on Monday. If you haven't been to Bryce Canyon you must put it on your places to visit list. It is absolutely amazing. I have never seen anything like it in my life. When you look out over the Bryce Amphitheater you see thousands of Hoodoos, which are pillars of rock that are shaped by erosion. The canyon is constantly changing due to extreme weather changes. We started out at Sunset Point. You can either walk along the top and enjoy the views from above or walk down into the canyon. We chose to walk down into the canyon. You start off going down switchbacks and Jack asked if there was an elevator to take you back to the top (I wish!). When we finally got to the bottom we found a place in the shade to eat lunch. A chipmunk tried to join us, but we refused to share our food. We continued on into the canyon because the trail was supposed to be a loop that brought you back up a different way. Matthew asked how much longer and a woman was nice enough to tell us that the path up ahead was closed and you could not make the full loop. So we turned around and headed back the way we came. Going back up the switchbacks was much more difficult and took a lot longer. Matthew was breathing pretty heavily, so we made him take lots of breaks. I was really proud of the boys for not complaining in either direction. However, their complaining was soon about to begin in a big way. Our next stop was Inspiration Point. Jack and Matthew decided to go into meltdown mode because we wouldn't let them listen to music when we got out of the car. Their mood pretty much went downhill from there. When we got back into the car Matthew refused to buckle his seatbelt so we spent about 20 minutes waiting for him to get bored and finally buckle. Our next stop was Bryce Point, which was really beautiful. The kids reluctantly walked down the trail which was really not that far (less than a 5 minute walk). Our last stop was Fairyland Point and Jack and Matthew refused to get out of the car. It was just a lookout point so happily left them in the car.

Everyone was pretty cranky at dinner, but when their stomachs were full and we got back to the cabin they were in much better moods. We ended the night with a game of Uno, which is Jack and Matthew's new favorite game. They haven't even missed watching TV. They have been having so much fun drawing, playing with their toys, throwing stuffed animals to each other and reading that they haven't even asked to watch TV or DVD's.
