Day One - Carefree, Arizona

We had a really busy weekend, so I didn't finish packing until this morning. We wanted to get on the road by 10, but didn't make it out of our driveway until 11. We somehow managed to pack all of our stuff into a Camry, much to the amazement of most people we tell. No one can believe we are actually going to drive cross country in a passenger car. Jack said he feels squished in the backseat, but I think part of the reason is because he sat in the middle seat right next to Matthew. We won't be making that mistake again because the closer the two of them are to each other, the more they "accidentally" hit each other.

We had to make a pitstop in Tustin because I realized that I had packed every other charger we needed for our various electronics except for the one for my iPad. All of my books for the trip are loaded on it, so I kind of really needed the charger. We ended up stopping for our lunch break at the same time. We made quite a few stops during the drive because Matthew never tells us he has to go to the bathroom until the last possible second and we are trying to avoid accidents.

When we got to Phoenix we stopped at the US Airways Arena where the Phoenix Suns play, so that Jack can continue with his goal to see every basketball arena in the country. After eating dinner at Five Guys we had to drive by the Capitol because Jack's latest obsession is government buildings. He will be in heaven when we go to Washington, D.C. in a few weeks. During the last half hour of our drive we witnessed an awesome lightning show. Jack proceeded to ask a million questions about lightning and what happens if various things like houses, cars and hotels are struck by lightning. We got to The Boulders Resort just in time because about 10 minutes after we got all of our stuff in our casita it started pouring. Jack is a little freaked out by the thunder and lighting and says he is going to have a hard time sleeping. Hopefully it will calm down by the time he goes to bed.
