Day 5 - Durango - Silverton Railroad

We woke up early to catch the 8:30 train from Durango to Silverton. It was a beautiful 3 1/2 hour train ride up the mountains. Matthew ended up sleeping a little because he was so tired. When we got to the small town of Silverton we had lunch at Natalia's Restaurant. A sign in the window said: Natalia's is home to one of the oldest standing bordellos in town built in 1883. Sorry, that service is no longer provided... But the food is great. After lunch we walked around the town for an hour before we caught the bus back to Durango. We were very happy that we chose to take the bus back to Durango. Even though the train ride was fun, we were glad not to have the long ride back. Plus we got to see different scenery on the bus.

When we got back to Durango we had the long drive to Denver ahead of us. As a word of warning, if you ever plan to drive from Durango to Denver make sure you have eaten or have food with you before you set out on your journey. There are very few towns in between and most of them only have one hole in the wall bar and grill that I refused to take my kids into. We ended up not finding anything to eat until we got to Denver at 10 p.m. We were all starving and cranky by that point.
